Now I bet every one has a super-cool computer game standing right there near the porn folder (males) or the e-books folder (females). I know I do, several really. Most of them are 3d with uber graphics and gameplays.
But they still get boring after a while. In my case, a short while. I played tons of games from many categories and there are very few games left that i would really like to play again. The game I’m gonna tell you about is one of them.
Now I played Civilizations IV, Age of empires/wonders/etc, Homeworld, to name a few. I even played Master of Orion II and Heroes III, the two games of my childhood, so you can trust me on this, it’s worth trying.
The game is called Galactica, made by BGE (Blue Gecko Entertainment) and it’s a free 2D online tick based space strategy game. If more explanation is needed,

Off-topic: You have a link to the game page at the bottom of the page if you want to skip the boring part. Use Firefox or IE (though I would never recommend IE because…I don’t like it. It’s unsafe.)
The game has multiple games for you to choose from…like Galactica which comes in two different flavours: Sim (a little more economy oriented) and Arcade (a little more combat oriented). It also has a game called Genesis which is some kind of medieval tick based strategy game. it has castles and stuff.
I mainly play Galactica Sim, the game i started with, the one i’m gonna talk about next.
The game is played in rounds with can hold about 250 players at once, and lasts for about 3.5 months. You will end up loging in about 3 times a day, spending half an hour, more or less to complete a “turn”.
I know, the duration of a round might sound long, but it’s not. And 1.5 hours a day is not that much either. More or less. I’m playing it since 4-5 years ago, and still have time to make a presence.
The game is kinda like Master of Orion in several ways. You start with an empire that consists of one planet at first and you can end up having hundreds of planets at your command. You can build ships and buildings and you can research technologies, colonize, invade, bomb planets, make non-aggression pacts, non-spying pacts, alliances etc. You can even sabotage things!
You can’t trade with other players though, but there is a market for resources and ships.
Also, another disadvantage would be that since many old players decided to leave and new players are becoming rare, the rounds have now about 40-50 players. But I hope this would change that.
The learning of the game is fast and you can cover it while reading the manual or the help or just by asking on the forum. Newbies are tolerated, and even helped, of course only if people know you’re new.
I learned the basics in one day and I’m still learning new strategies, after all this time.
My advice based on personal experience is to bring some friends too, also fans of the genre. It’s cool to share the experience with someone.
Bottom line is that, it’s a good game to play if bored and in need of a simple game to keep your mind busy.
Enough said, now the link. You’ll find screenshots and the current version. Just download and unpack, make an account and join the fun!
Cheers and have a nice game!
PS: I’m not a native English speaker, so if I made some mistakes, that is…unfortunate.
